Lill’s Diary – Week 12

March 19 – 25, 1934

March 19

Monday.

Today it is warm and spring like again. I made Bonnie Jane two little slips. It is Signe’s birthday today. Jane & I sent a card. Dad brought me a pound of candy to day.- I talked to Ellen. Bonnie still coughs.

March 20

Tuesday.

Did the usual things to day.- sewed on Bonnies dress.- talked to Ellen and Mabel. Signe called also. planted out potatoes today. Bonnies cough is still bad. we had popcorn to night Ruths treat.

March 21

Wednesday.

Baked bread – cookies & doughnuts. and cleaned up all over.- Dady-Bill-Bonnie and I drove out to Laurence Lundblad’s to get some catus (cactus?). came through the fair grounds.- got some daisys & mums to plant to day from Mrs. Tompson.

March 22

Thursday.

Worked in the yard a while this morning. planted some mums and daisys. Bill Tud & Bonnie & I hauled a load of rocks and built part of the fence. we walked all through the woods it was great sport. talked to Irene today. all well.

March 23

Friday.

A pretty spring day. washed, ironed – and most everything else. Mabel & Ray came out a while to night. we had ice cream and did we eat. Bonnie made her playhouse to day. and Bill put a new radiator in the Ford. in all a busy family.

March 24

Saturday.

A cold rainy day and after our touch of spring a fire feels good. they all went to town but Bonnie Jane & I. I have a touch of hay fever – its fun. picked the first flowers of spring today. 1 blue bonnet. 3 Iris and are they pretty. all well

March 25

Sunday.

At home all day as it rained & rained. cooked dinner & slept a while in the afternoon. Tuddie and Billy made some ice cream. read a couple of good stories Tut called and she stayed at Polly’s to night also. A nice quiet Sunday.

Happy birthday, Signe! I’m still not sure who you are. I guess I’ll have to hope for more clues. There are a number of Signes listed in the census records and other church records, but without a little more detail I can’t even guess.

Sounds like spring has sprung, for a minute! We’re seeing bluebonnets this week too! I love hearing about all her gardening.

Poor Bonnie and her cough! Spoiler alert: that’s not going to clear up for a few more weeks!
